“The Victorian government has hired Deloitte for AU$1.3 million to develop an Australia-wide e-health strategy.

The strategy is intended to provide a vision or recommended “future state” for e-health over both public and private sectors for the next five to 10 years, and give advice on what forms of governance will need to be put into place to manage it, according to tender documents.”

This is a long term stategy, and is signs of the very early steps to a National System.  Britiain’s national system is currently floundering under increasing costs, and shifting specs.

“Look at the trouble the NHS (UK’s National Health Service) has had — and they have only one health jurisdiction, only one government to look after,” Carter said. “NEHTA has to converse with nine different health departments, and the Commonwealth. It’s a long journey and it won’t happen quickly. We are talking about a five- or 10-year transition.”

There is an inherent problem when dealing from the side of the health care providers.  They are using disperate record solutions, and are focussed on costs.
